5/24/2023 0 Comments The Psychoanalysis of Racism, Revolution and Nationalism by Richard A. KoenigsbergThe German body politic, however, Hitler believed, contained a force within working to destroy it, the Jew. Hitler embraced Germany as an entity that could “live on.” He believed that the German nation had the potential to become immortal. Actions undertaken or performed by the Nazis represented the unfolding or acting out of this bodily fantasy. What I have discovered through analysis of the images and metaphors contained within his writings and speeches is that Hitler's ideology revolves around a fantasy about the body, more precisely, about the German body politic. This paper represents a reconstruction of Hitler's ideology. Through systematic analysis of recurring images and metaphors, it is possible to reveal the deep structure of an ideology. I observe recurring images and metaphors within ideological productions. more I study ideology as if manifest content of a dream, seeking to comprehend the ideology's latent content or unconscious meaning. James Trevenen is none too thrilled at the prospect of a stay in London either. When she learns that her father intends for her to escort the winner of the Copley Medal around town during his stay at the family home, she is terrified at the prospect of venturing out into society once more. She spends her days visiting her elderly godfather, painting specimens at the Royal Gardens, and tending to her young son. Her family can no longer go about in society and Susannah is never allowed to forget that they carry this burden due to her scandalous elopement. Susannah Park has lived a life of retirement and disgrace since her return to England following the death of her husband in India. As always, she creates endearing characters and stories that go places far deeper than the usual courtship stories. Kelly’s tale of two tortured survivors finding love and comfort together is beautiful, touching, and often very funny. Carla Kelly is back at last! It’s been far too long since her last release, but this book makes up for the wait. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Ask Me for Fire by Halli StarlingThose who create something new must become a monopoly and avoid competition, which can lead to big profits down the line. In his book, Thiel argues that while the easiest way to advance is often to do more of the same cheaply, human creation and technological advancement is what holds real value, having given the world windmills and steam engine as well as cars and smartphones. Masters’ very detailed notes generated a lot of discussion when they were posted online, eventually leading to this collaboration with Thiel. His very enjoyable book was written in collaboration with Blake Masters, a Stanford University student who attended Thiel’s 2012 class on startups. He was the first outside investor in Facebook and sits on its Board. Thiel is a highly successful entrepreneur who started PayPal, Palantir and the venture capital firm Founders Fund. This is the premise behind ‘ Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future’ by Peter Thiel. But each time we create something, we move from 0 to 1. Each time we copy, we move from 1 to n, adding more of the familiar. It’s easier to copy something than to create something new. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Kerstin gier booksGier also writes best-selling women’s novels with titles like “Men and Other Disasters,” and her genial, comic sensibility informs “Ruby Red.” Time travel, Gier style, is something to be discussed on the cellphone while standing in the yogurt aisle at the supermarket. Neither cerebral like Madeleine L’Engle’s time travel classic “A Wrinkle in Time” nor literary like last year’s Newbery Medal winner, Rebecca Stead’s “When You Reach Me,” this is more like chick lit sci-fi. The best answer is that “Ruby Red” is both suspenseful and comforting. What is it about this book that inspires such enthusiasm? One amateur translation attempt posted online, while less expert than that of the book’s award-winning translator, Anthea Bell, was somehow more stirring: I pictured a teenage girl sitting at a desk in her bedroom, holding her copy of “Rubinrot” open in one hand, mouthing a few words, then turning to her keyboard to share it with the world. “Ruby Red” has the kind of fans who upload videos of themselves performing scenes from the book on YouTube (as part of a casting contest for a film in preproduction). Already a phenomenon in Germany, where it was published in 2009, “Ruby Red,” the first installment in a time travel trilogy by Kerstin Gier, is now making its American debut. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Santa olivia bookI continued to love the idea of genetically modified humans that can’t feel fear. Most of the world is recovering okay, but the United States still has these horrible secret Outposts that they are hiding from the rest of the world. This is a world that is recovering from being ravaged by a horrible disease. There is some excellent world-building here. However, when they bodyguard for a band called Kate an opportunity arises for Loup and Pilar to help stop the atrocities in the Outpost and the prejudice against GMO’s once and for all. The offer gives them a chance to travel and earn some money. They both get an offer to join an elite bodyguard firm and decide to take the offer. Loup and Pilar have escaped the Outpost and finally get to meet some of Loup’s family on the outside in Mexico. It was a very well done book and I enjoyed it a lot. This is the 2nd book in the Santa Olivia series and this book ties up the Santa Olivia series by Carey. Stand Alone or Series: 2nd book in the Santa Olivia series Neither Leila, nor Esmond is especially happy to be working together - their relationship is one of intense attraction accompanied by intense resistance. The man they call on - the sexy blue-eyed Comte d'Esmond - is a man of many talents who has spent the past ten years as one of the government's most trusted covert operatives a man who also has a dark and treacherous past. Because of Francis' many enemies and victims, government officials instigate a quiet investigation, many of whom fear fallout from Francis' numerous blackmail and extortion schemes. When Francis turns up dead in the Beaumont townhouse, right after a loud and vitriolic argument with his wife, Leila is seen as the primary suspect, innocent though she is. Though long ago, Francis very much played the hero, rescuing and wedding the orphaned 17-year-old Leila - Francis' more recent hedonistic lifestyle of drinking, drugging and womanizing has not only earned him quite a few enemies in London, but lost him the love of his wife. Leila Beaumont is a gorgeous and talented portrait painter trapped in a loveless marriage with her profligate husband, Francis. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Flight by alyssa rose ivyOne of my most favorite series ever actually. This is just a fun addition to a stellar series. But if you have at least read FLIGHT, then I say get at it. So yeah, things are good and I will take what I can get.ĭefinitely something you don't want to read first in the series if you have yet to read any of the books. It was a fabulous little read and we get Levi. But I still loved what Ivy gave us and I really cannot complain. I needed to see his side of things as things progressed. But he doesn't let that two letter word deter him. Now he is constantly getting told it from every angle. It had to have been a burn to his high flying ego. I have always wondered what it was like when cocky Levi's charming ways went unnoticed, well somewhat unnoticed, by Allie we they first met. 5/24/2023 0 Comments Hissers by Ryan C. ThomasI would never dream of changing this aspect as it fits the character and makes her an endearing and a favourite of mine. The language is a bit blue which would make most parents frown which is probably what is holding this back from the YA market. This should be the best young adult fiction ever written but not written for that market. Thomas has taken his characters and given them a spin by given them the age of 14. This author is extremely talented and with each read, I am finding out that he is indeed a unique talent. The characters are real and feel like they live off the pages in their universe somewhere. He never cheapens the characters forcing them into situations or provides them with dialogue that doesn’t fit. Thomas seems to have a real talent with mixing well defined characters with strong relationships being placed in the horrific. Thomas has a real talent to build a story gradually so you have a full understanding of the four leads and when the action does take place, you are fully invested in these characters. This is where ‘HISSERS will prove you wrong. Hissers by Ryan C Thomas is one of those rollercoaster rides that at first glance over the description reads like your typical Apocalyptic disease/zombie hybrid stories that becomes difficult to differentiate one story from another. His love for the theatre may be traced back to his membership in L'Equipe, an Algerian theatre group, whose "collective creation" Révolte dans les Asturies (1934) was banned for political reasons. He also adapted plays by Calderon, Lope de Vega, Dino Buzzati, and Faulkner's Requiem for a Nun. But his journalistic activities had been chiefly a response to the demands of the time in 1947 Camus retired from political journalism and, besides writing his fiction and essays, was very active in the theatre as producer and playwright (e.g., Caligula, 1944). The man and the times met: Camus joined the resistance movement during the occupation and after the liberation was a columnist for the newspaper Combat. Of semi-proletarian parents, early attached to intellectual circles of strongly revolutionary tendencies, with a deep interest in philosophy (only chance prevented him from pursuing a university career in that field), he came to France at the age of twenty-five. His origin in Algeria and his experiences there in the thirties were dominating influences in his thought and work. Albert Camus (1913-1960) was a representative of non-metropolitan French literature. |
